Although it’s been going for years, this place has not aged, but like a good wine, has gained character and quality. It has been refurbished during the years without losing any of its essence. People come here to drink draft vermouth or sweet wine and eat wine-infused torrija (fried bread pudding), pestiño (honey fritters), a tapa of Spanish omelette, callos or huevos rotos ("broken eggs" served on a bed of fried potatoes). Spacious premises with colourful tiles, high ceilings and an authentic-looking tavern façade. There is a long, marble-topped bar at the entrance. Behind it, you’ll find the dining room. There is also an excellent terrace with views over the Almudena Cathedral and the Palacio Real, which explains its popularity with tourists. Fast, friendly service. Great prices.
