This popular Chinese restaurant in the Eixample district is usually full of Asian diners, which is a better sign than any neon dragon. The menu mixes Shanghainese specialities, where its owners are from, with Sichuan dishes. There are authentic, tasty xiaolongbao, toasted noodles with peanuts, salt-cured pork loin with peppers and aubergines with character. The service does its job without too much ceremony. The venue is spread over two bright floors, somewhat noisy and with tables set quite close together. Direct cooking, friendly prices and an authenticity that needs no disguise. Best to go hungry and with little need for intimate conversation.
