With over a century of history, this is the oldest tavern in the centre of Santiago de Compostela. It's nothing short of a miracle—perhaps from the apostle himself—to find a spot at its famed bar, preserved just as it was in the beginning. The Galician octopus empanada is unbeatable, as are the Padrón peppers, tetilla cheese, Galician broth, octopus and the fresh seafood of the day. The space is simple and unpretentious, with white tables, stools and paper placemats. They don’t take bookings, so it’s best to arrive early. A true classic that has held on to its authenticity.
